Lots of Shiny Things
Being a student is sometimes linked with being skint. For those of you who are not familiar with Scotticisms, to be 'skint' is to be devoid of money. What people sometimes ignore is the mathematics of the whole situation.
People seem to be quite happy in readily admitting that being a student is expensive, and it is. Thousands of pounds are poured into what I am increasingly coming to believe is a pointless continuation of education. What astounds me is that some people really believe that anywhere near all of this goes to paying for education / accommodation. In reality, it is only about half... or at least, it is in my case. Without going into specifics (mainly because I can't be arsed, but also because it's 3:15am), I spend almost half of my income from loans, bursaries and wages on Shiny Things.
Those of you who are either retarded / laugh at your own jokes might think that I refer to objects whose surface reflects light in an aesthetic manner. This is not the case, although it does describe (in part) some of the items to which I really refer.
Side-note: it just took me 7 attempts to spell 'items'. I REQUIRE SLEEP.
Anyway, the objects of this discussion are referred to as Shiny because that's the kind of person I am. To help those of you who are not familiar with this terminology, I shall now list some of these Shiny things that have been such a drain on my funds:
1. Alienware PC (£1900)
2. Acer Laptop (£900)
3. Star Trek: The Next Generation [Complete Box Set] (£225)
4. Suikoden I and II (£160)
5. Lord of the Rings: Trilogy Box Set (£50)
6. Guild Wars [Collector's Edition] (£50)
About £3300 devoted solely to items that, while cost me several limbs to purchase, will probably outlast me... in terms of duration only, of course: it saddens me to learn that my Alienware will be all but defunct in only a couple of years. Woe is my wallet.
That was really all that this post was about. I was inspired to post again after reading a particularly funny blog about how much a guy hated his flatmate. It made for quite an interesting read, and should the desire arise, I will link it at a later date. As it stands, however, it is now 3:25am (tip to pass the time: try and figure out how many words per minute I can type by using the two time references in this post!) and I really can't think of anything else that would even border on interesting to relay to you, my non-existant audience. I know it's time to stop when I start saying things like this, so I shall.
Knowing me, see you all again in a couple of months.
WoW > All
Yeah, so... World of Warcraft. What can I say? That it's greater than all? Some wise person who also happens to be me already said that. To be truthful, it is only one of several reasons why I don't update this blog a lot. Most of it's due to me being just plain lazy. The reasons for my lethargy are complex beyond mortal comprehension, and I can't be bothered describing them either, so it's just as well.
News? What news? I'm in Edinburgh, pointedly not going to University, in an attempt to prove once and for all that you aren't actually required to attend Napier to pass any of its Computing course. I've ordered an Alienware PC at a price so exorbitant, an entire colony of Account-Ants (laugh, please) exploded. I bought the Bucky O'Hare DVD box set, comprising of all 13 episodes; 4 hours and 45 minutes of pure nostalgia. I also managed to get my hands on the first 18 episodes of "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe". More nostalgia. It's like crack, I tell you.
I have a PSP, as well, don't you know. I also have a kickass, huge room and 2Mbps broadband. There is a McDonalds 5 minutes away from this flat, and no less than 3 pizza places, 1 *awesome* chippy and 1 *awesome* chinese takeaway within delivery range. Also, wicker garden furniture is mighty comfortable.
That's about all I have to say, because I really am lazy. Expect another update sometime in the future, but don't hold your breath. ^_^
Monthly Update Time!
Yeah, I already said I suck at this... what more do you want?! Regular updates, you say? Well, my life just isn't all that interesting, I'm afraid. What's even worse is that I'm probably the only one who reads this. But, considering that I'm used to that idea (what with me writing stories and all) I don't intend to stop writing this Blog any time soon; it'll just get updates when I see fit, or get bored. A shiny penny to the first one who guesses which of those two criteria this post falls under.
So, what's new? Well, I've been back from Uni for over a month now. Today was a very good day, as far as I can tell. I got some mail saying that I'd officially passed 1st Year (yay!) and another letter telling me just how well I'd done (double yay!). Surprisingly, I got a letter from BT as well, telling me that they owed ME money; about £15 to be precise (triple yay mit sugar on top!). So yeah, I'm happy.
I've mostly been playing World of Warcraft... a quick check of my previous posts indicates that I've said little about this topic other than stating my addiction to this GOD of a game. As of this post, my character is called Leivan; a Level 47 Night Elf Druid on the European Draenor server. If anyone reads this (hahaha) and is interested (HAHAHA), then feel free to give me a whisper in-game, or send me a mail. If you're cheap, I'll even accept it C.O.D. But yeah, this game rocks, and I shall be playing it for many, many months to come.
Oh, I got a job, too. I start on Monday, working at the Vertex building just outside Forres (my home town, in case you didn't know). It's a call centre - no, not the ones that call people and offer them kitchens and double-glazing; the other kind, where people phone us - and I'll be working there part-time for now. I'm on a Vodafone contract, which at least means I'll be somewhat in my depth... and it comes with the added bonus of not having to talk to pensioners on the DWP contract.
The job pays well enough, which is cool. I'm several hundred quid overdrawn at the moment, and these people want to give me money for answering phones all day... which is fine by me. Needless to say, if I keep at this job until I go back to University, I'll more than pay back my over-large overdraft. This technically means I'll be going into 2nd Year with more cash than I did for 1st Year; with a cheaper flat and cheaper internet, things are looking up.
Anyhoo, I shall leave you know. I go to play World of Warcraft, and have much yoyous fun in doing so. Keep checking back here if you exist, and leaving a comment every now and then wouldn't hurt either. It might motivate me to actually do something... maybe update more often. Meh.
Chris @ Home
Wheeee! Home again! It would be perfect, too, if only I could get internet on my own bloody computer. Being the ass that I am, I decided to remove my 56k modem from the back of my computer, thinking that I would never need it again. It's times like these I wish I could go back in time and slap myself in the face... but alas, while I have already built a flux capacitor, I have no way of generating the 1.21 Gigawatts of electricity required to power it. Le sigh.
Anyhoo, everything other than that is fine. My beard has been set free at last; it was getting a bit out of control. I managed to tackle it using only my Mach 3 Turbo razor, which is saying a lot... you would know what I mean if you ever had the privelege of seeing my beard. And while it is gone, I still think on it with fond memories and whatnot.
In other news, hot female gamers really do exist. Though because fate hates me, the one I have met is in Sweden and already taken. Needless to say; BUGGER. But let this be a message to all horny male gamers! There may well be a horny female gamer out there for you! But if your luck is anything like mine, she'll be married to King Usuk Eyerool of Darkest Africa. Bah... BAH I say!
Summer Holidays
Well, it's only a few days now until my Summer Holidays begin. Being a University student and all, they start early and end late. To sum it up, I get four months off, and chances are that you don't. Bwah ha ha, etc.
Having said that, it's going to be a lot of fun trying to pack everything up. Not to mention the three and a half craploads of coursework I've had to do at the last moment. For those of you that don't know, I hate Microsoft Access. It has been the very bane of my existence since Third Year in the Academy. I thought I might have escaped it last semester, but it came back to haunt me. However, I was assured by my self-proclaimed bastard of a friend (namely Ravus) that he would do the entire thing. It turns out, however, that he was lying. Out of his ass.
So, it's now about 1 week past the original deadline (I love the sound they make as they fly by... whoosh!) and thanks to another friend of mine (namely fruitbat) the Access project is complete. It's a huge pile of dog, horse and bull excrement, but hey; I only need 30% to pass. Now, all I have to do is hand something acceptable in for my Photography elective, and come June the 3rd, I'm out of here.
Ah, home... where the food is free, and Gaming is king. Back soon, Dante; I hope the NWN XP Kitten of Doom is ready.
I Really Suck At This...
I'm pretty sure I suck at this whole Blogging thing. I mean, I like the idea and everything... but I just never seem to have the time. Or rather, I do have the time; it's just that I enjoy spending it elsewhere. I was one of those kids who always wanted to keep a diary; I'm still one of those people who would love to have everything neat and tidy. Unfortunately, this conflicts with my general lethargic nature. I say lethargy, but I don't mean it... it's not that I'm lazy, it's just that I procrastinate a lot. I like doing the things I like doing, and I leave the stuff I don't like until later.
Having said that, I thought that this Blog could do with an update of some type. For some strange reason that I can't quite discern, this system seems to like updating the front page of my blog about a day after I write something new. I can access the article in the History, or whatever... but it strikes me as though a Blogger created by Google should work a little better. Though the chances of it being a fault on my part are slightly greater than a really certain thing.
Hmm... what else? Why am I asking you? How should you know? ... Pay no attention, I'm going insane. Umm... oh, yeah... I'm addicted to World of Warcraft now. Started playing just under a month ago and I don't plan on stopping. This affirmation is so secure in its truthfulness, I reason that you could base a form of time travel around it, using it as a temporal constant. But now that I've filled your minds with drivel, I must bid you adieu. Nature calls...
Insomnia is Your Friend!
God-damn KotoR II and your addictive wiles! GOD DAMN YOU!
Well, now that's out of my system, here's another impromptu update on the life and times of me, myself and the voices in my head.
To begin with, I managed to complete KotoR II as a Light Side Master. Started farting about with the save-game files, managed to change myself into a Hutt who slid along the ground, drumming his fingers. But I'd better not get into talking about all that, lest I be here for the next couple of years in an attempt to describe the orgasmic glee derived from playing this game. All credit goes to Dante for buying me this.
Other than that, I've mostly been keeping my KOC and MediWar accounts alive, attempting to spare them from the ass-ravaging that those who do not spend their gold regularly are prone to. Had a couple of rants on FED2k about games and violence and all that jazz. Read through all of the Bigger Than Cheeses webcomic (really funny, check them out). Generally become more and more reclusive, depressed and centred around my shiny, shiny PC.
Bah. Women.
